Mother, Baker, and Business Owner

“I’m not one to believe that you have to pay your dues doing something that you’re not interested in when you have a passion to do something else. If you know what you want to do, go do it.”

Bo Lefkoff received some unexpected news two years ago when she came out on top of 35 other bakers in a pound cake cook off in Roswell, GA. When a lady came up to Bo after the conclusion of the event and asked “do you by chance sell these?” Bo was quick to respond, “I do now!”

Once a graphic designer, product manager, and Hallmark employee, Bo eventually became tired of the “corporate thing.” “After being a stay at home Mom for a couple of years. I just was bored. I’m not a go out to lunch or a hit the gym kind of a person, but I needed to be doing something.”

When she went home with the 1st place title of the Southern Pound Cake Cookoff, Bo immediately got to work.

“My aunt had made the Rum Cake, the Nana Cookies, and the Butterscotch Cake for years in the family. I ended up getting the blessings from everyone to use the recipes to start a business. They happily said ‘go ahead,’ and so I did.

“When I hand somebody a sample, and they make that look on their face like it reminds them of home or their grandmother’s kitchen –  it’s the best feeling.”

“I now do the farmer’s market at Georgia Tech and have a growing online business. I even get to work out of my home. It’s just been going great. Every few months I do a little bit better, and a little bit better. Of course it’s been a struggle sometimes, but it’s just awesome owning my own business. I absolutely love it.”
